When I was student teaching, I came across the book Tuck Everlasting. This was before they made it into a movie, and I had never heard of it before. I absolutely loved it. I saw the movie a few years later and liked it ok, but I didn't think it captured the magic of the book. Few movies ever do.
So after loving reading Bridge to Teribithia to my kids last spring, I chose Tuck Everlasting to read next. It took us all summer. And that's no way to read a book. By the time we finally finished, I don't think my kids cared at all. They did get excited about it when we were in the middle and reading every day or so, but after letting it sit for a couple of weeks before finishing, they just weren't very interested.
I just borrowed Because of Winn Dixie from a friend. Hopefully we'll get the hang of the school schedule soon and start reading together again. And hopefully we won't get sidetracked and lose interest again!
**And please forgive my lack of italics or underlining the titles of the books--I'm having issues with Blogger letting me edit, and it's totally bugging the English teacher in me =)

WOW, I never knew you were an English teacher. That is awesome! Now I will really have to watch my writing skills. :-) Ha, ha... That is great that you read to your kids. I saw the move Tuck Everlasting and thought it was great. I'll have to read the book now.
I loved Because of Winn-Dixie. It's a short book, and so stinking cute. It was great, and hopefully your kids love it too!
I'm still trying to get my kids interested in reading anything but books that ryhme. I've tried Harry Potter, and Brayden is the only one who's truly excited about it, maybe I should try again.
I loved Tuck Everlasting and am embarrassed to say I've never read the book, but I want to. That's next on my list!
Not the same caliber of book, but I'm a sucker for the old Ramona Quimby books. I read those to Erin & I was amazed at how much I remembered from reading them when I was a kid. Now I'll have to get out some other ones because of your post!
I love that book! I was so excited when we did it as a lit study when I was student teaching!
That is such a good idea to read books like that with your kids. I wasn't a big fan of the movie, but maybe I'll try to read the book.
Sadly, I have only read one of the three books you mentioned, and I haven't seen any of the movies. I will have to read Tuck Everlasting and Because of Winn Dixie--I really don't know anything about them. Thanks for the tip!
Great ideas on books I think I need to read them and then share them with my kids in a few years. I haven't been blogging for a while. Suzanna sure is growing up and is a cutie pie she has a contagious smile.
Hey Stacie! I found you! I can't believe how big Brendan is! He looks just like he did at good ol' sunrise apartments! Your fam is so cute! Where do you live? I noticed you went to the splash park. I work out at that rec center, so I'm there all the time. My kids love it. Check out my blog and keep in touch!
