Brendon had fun creating his rocket for the cub scout space derby last week. And if the paint job looks familiar, that's because it is--it's the same as his pinewood derby car. He wanted to do the same Jimmy Johnson inspired design again since it was so "lucky" last time. That's right--his car won because of the paint job, right?
Well maybe, maybe not, but his rocket did do great at the race! They only had time for a couple of races for each boy, but Brendon won both of his races. And I'm sure it didn't have anything to do with all the help from his dad =) It's all because he used his favorite race car driver's colors....

wow, I am in for a world of new things with scouts in a few years. I know nothing about it! But that looks really cool.
That sounds so cool. Our ward needs to do something like this. Since I'm the one in charge of scouts I guess I'm the one who needs to do it right? I love his design, I'll have to check it out when I'm up there in a few weeks.
That's awesome to have a space derby! His rocket looks really good. That's funny that he used a Jimmy Johnson car. Was that his idea or Phillip's?
That is great? I've never been to a space derby? Do they really shoot the rockets off to see how high they go? or is it like the pinewood derby track? Good job, Brendon (& Phil).
I wish they shot them off like real rockets! That would have been great! But they actually glide along some fishing wire across the gym. They had to have a "track" built, and it was pretty cool, but it took FOREVER to wind each rocket up to launch them, which is why each boy only got to race a couple of times each.
How fun to read about Brendon's rocket experience. And I'm pleased that his Dad is involved. :-) I was also glad for the further information on how the races were done. Cub Scouts is a great program. Good for all of you in supporting it!
Don't worry Stacie, I don't care if you do the tag. I was just trying to think of some people to do. I just Lisa a hard time about it because that's what sisters do! :)
I didn't know they did a space derby! Very cool. So has he been rigging it up & trying to launch it in the house?
That is such a neat idea. I have never heard of a Space Derby before. How fun! I am glad he did a good job! I will have to remember those colors for when my boys do the whole derby thing.
